Unfortunately due to poor planning on the part of the garden manager, there are no pictures of our exciting first harvest here at UMBS this year. However, you can take my word for it that it was fun and exciting and we got enough salad greens for dinner. We harvested mesclun mix, which is a combination of lettuce species, mizuna, arugula, mustard green, chervil, endive, sorrel, and tatsoi. We also harvested a bit of volunteer lettuce growing in last year’s veggie patch. Apparently some lettuce went to seed last year and survived to come up this year. It was lush and green and tasty! And finally we snipped a few pea greens to mix in. Thanks to those of you who came up to help! And look forward to harvest next Sunday.

In other news, the weather has taken a turn from too hot sunny and dry to RAIN AND HAIL! Luckily the worst of the weather passed west of here, and my plants are all still thriving. If it gets sunny today, the plants will be growing like crazy!
