Emergency Harvest

To quote a pretty good country song, “Rain makes corn… (leave out the innuendo middle)… rain is a good thing”. I don’t think they were singing about 3.5 inches of rain in 24 hrs.  We actually called an emergency harvest this morning to salvage the remaining lettuce and spinach so we can eat it instead of letting it rot away in all the wetness.

Two vegetable heroes woke up early and came out in the drizzle and wetness to help me harvest. At least the heavy rain held off for a few minutes while we got the stuff in.  And, on the bright side, the Brassicas (like cabbage, broccoli, kale, and kohlrabi) are loving all the rain, so we should get a great crop of those! For now, though, please no more rain dances.
